In Memoriam:  Eileen Mitchell

It is with great sadness that we relay that Principal Library Assistant Eileen Mitchell, the heart and soul of the Beach Haven Library for more than 40 years, passed away on May 25, 2024.  She was at home, surrounded by family.

Virginia Lambert of the library’s Board of Trustees perhaps said it best:

“It has been my privilege and pleasure to know Eileen Garabo Mitchell for over 60 years – as a student, a friend, and a dedicated employee of the Beach Haven Public Library. We were extremely fortunate to have had such a loyal, hardworking and genuinely kind person on our staff. She truly made everyone feel welcome upon entering. Her warmth, her amazing memory for people and what they liked to read, her determination to find something suitable for everyone who entered, and her encyclopedic knowledge of the building and everything in it are just a few of the attributes Eileen brought with her to work each and every day. She was commonly referred to as the heart and soul of our beloved library, and that is honestly not an exaggeration.”

A kinder, gentler soul never walked the earth.

The Beach Haven Library Board and Staff was glad to have been able to celebrate her decades of service this past February

The library’s Eileen Mitchell Children’s Room, dedicated last July, will always honor her memory.

Eileen’s family will host a celebration of her Life on Sunday, June 9th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Beach Haven Firehouse.
