About Beach Haven
Public Library

The Beach Haven Public Library is a cultural gem on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Established in the late 19th century, the library has a rich history that spans over a century. Today, the library is a prime architectural treasure and a direct link to the town’s colorful past.

Located on a corner lot at Third Street and Beach Avenue, the library was built in 1924 as a gift from Elizabeth Pharo, the widow of Walter Pharo, a man who donated the old Quaker Meeting House to the town. Designed by renowned architect R. Brognard Okie, the library was modeled after a Pennsylvania farmhouse, but constructed entirely of brick and steel. With features such as three working fireplaces, a vaulted ceiling, and an interior balcony, the library is a stunning example of early 20th-century architecture.

The library’s collection has grown over the years and includes a wide range of materials for all ages and interests. From popular fiction and non-fiction to a children’s room with books, toys, and activities, the library has something for everyone.

Mission Statement
