Book Discussion and Signing at the Beach Haven Library
The Beach Haven Library will welcome New Jersey author Maureen Edwards for a conversation and book discussion on Wednesday, September 20th at 2:00 pm highlighting her debut novel “It Is What It Is,” which takes the reader on a journey into the demanding, exciting and creative world of teaching set against the backdrop of pressures and politics educators often find they must navigate. You will never look at teaching in the same way again.
Georgie, the novel’s heroine, is a passionate and dedicated new schoolteacher finally embarking on the career she was meant to pursue after spending 10 years in the corporate world. All too soon, she learns that district politics can be even more treacherous than anything she encountered in her previous life as she fights to prove her worth to a self-centered vice-principal who seems to have his own reasons for wanting her to fail. Despite setbacks on many fronts, Georgie finds herself supported by caring educators, especially her mentor Alex, a sweet and charming veteran technology teacher she finds herself slowly growing to admire. Stumbling on secrets and scandals, at times Georgie wonders if all hope is lost. Only time will tell.
Author Maureen Edwards spent her career working in the educational system. With a family home in North Beach, she spent nearly 30 summers on LBI, serving for several years as a tennis instructor at the Brant Beach Yacht Club. She currently calls Ocean Grove, New Jersey home.
